Those who don’t know me might mistake my passion for business as a hunger for money and material things. But the truth is, I don’t need a luxurious lifestyle. The reason I’m so driven to grow my businesses is because I know that if I don’t take care of myself, no else will.
We live in a world of false security. It feels good to have a steady paycheck from our employer, but that can be taken away from us at any moment. Organizations downsize. Companies lay off people. Budgets are reduced. Your employer might care about you, but they might not be able to pay you what you’re worth.
What is entrepreneurship to me? It’s embracing the fact that stability is a myth, and ultimately we’re the ones responsible for giving ourselves what we need in this world. It’s finding a way to deliver value to people and getting paid to do it. Most importantly, it’s making the decision to stop waiting for others to determine your worth.
For the record, I’m not condoning that you just recklessly quit your day job — I have a day job and I love it. But realize that you have the power to change your reality. There are people out there who will happily pay you for your skill sets. What can you offer to them?
